“Windfall Orhard-New Paltz, NY”

Lee W. Hughes

Lee lived in Gladstone for 21 years with Nancy Pollock and her family sharing a home with
many animal creatures. Lee shared his green thumb creating sumptuous gardens each
spring with vegatables and fruits and of course those glorious sunflowers.

Lee’s studio was a converted garage where he painted I say his “masterpieces”. Painting after paintings it was a wonderful place to visit and thumb through the walls of work. This location
a haven for Lee is where he developed his impressive career to becoming a prominent well known painter in Somerset county, NJ. Lee touched my people with his teachings at various Art Associations throughout NJ.

In 2007 The Somerset Art Association located at 2020 Burnt Mills Road, Bedminster, New Jersey held an exhibit, “Lee Hughes: A Lifetime of Art,” The show featured over 35 paintings, together
for the first time, with many on loan from local collections.

After the Art Association Exhibit the Bernardsville Public Library hosted “The Lee Legacy” June of 2007. As a gifted art instructor, Lee shared his talent with students at the
Newark School of Fine Arts, local art
associations and privately. The show included Lee’s works along with works of his student’s over the last 30 years.

Today, at the age of 78, Lee has been in over
200 solo shows as well as many group shows, including one at the Smithsonian Institute. He
has earned over 200 awards in watercolor, oil
and acrylic mediums. His works are in collections at the Zhejiang Museum, China, Morris
Museum, Seton Hall University, Delbarton School and numerous corporate headquarters including the Peapack Gladstone Bank, Nabisco, Inc., and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and extensive private
collections all over the world.

Lee is in the family of the big boys Cezanne, Monet, Van Gogh, Sargent, Henri, Hawthorn, and Matisse.

Lee W. Hughes currently resides in California with his 2 children.

“There rarely seemed to be a dull moment with him. We struggled with bad times but have and will always remain family. Lee is fortunate to
have 2 families east coast and west”. Miss you, love you. — Nancy Pollock —
